WOW… That is a great Step class, I must say… You should put on more video’s… I just found my own style of teaching Intermediate and Advanced Step about a month ago (teaching for 7 months now). But I must commend you on your choreography, wow…
djkgr- You’re quoting a study from 1990- that’s 20 years ago. Things have moved on and there have been papers published on the ground reaction forces(GRF) relating to both step height and cadence. We now know that GRFs are influenced more by the height of the platform and participant experience than the speed of the music so 128bpm really is dinosaur stepping. This instructor teaches a safe class for her (advanced) participants and I’m sure the class is appropriately advertised as such.
Hi jgrubb74,
Thank you for your open mind and willingness to “think outside the box”, in the long run it will make you a better instructor and not stuck in the “old way” of thinking.
~Just keepiing it real.

Each one of us have our own style of teaching that is what makes us unique. I to don’t teach at 140 BPM but I love the awesome moves and choreograhpy. I will use this combo in my class putting my style of teaching to it. Thanks for the inspiration.
I appreciate your passion, sticking to rules that were created in 1990. I believe things have evolved over the 20 years and yes, I teach “my style” of choreography at 142 BPM. That is what makes this world so wonderful…there is room for all of us and our teaching styles. Fitness is not an exact science, we must continue to grow and expand our minds.
My friend ..having only platform top that is not a reason to make your steppin choreography safe. Rules for steppin are since 1990 Dr. Peter and Lorna Francies did the research at the University of San Diego.
128bpm…
Hi, Thank you for your post. I don’t carry them anymore but I will post more classes with breakdowns.
This is an advanced class and advertised as such, you are seeing the final product. The breakdown offers a side leg over the board rather than a jump as an option. If you notice all boards have only 1 riser, we are jumping 4″…similar to jumping rope. If they can’t jump rope I guess they shouldn’t be in this class.
If people don’t learn how to unload their knee they are in trouble walking off a curb. I train them to use their bodies in a safe, fun, effective way.
..Jumping from top…Sorry! Fast tempo My knees! OUCH
Do you have a dvd? And a breakdown of your moves so i can actually pick it at home?
Thanks you Peter!
looks like lots of fun!
WOW….Way too fast, but some good moves
My class is listed as advanced step…if it were not listed advanced I would follow AFAA guidlines, members understand walking in that this is not the “norm”. I guess that is why they call it “guidelines”.
Wow….142bpm….AFAA guidelines are 128 – 130bpm. What cert allows stepping at that pace?
You are inspirational!! I love it! It makes my classes soooooo much better!
this is no match to the advance aerobics class in the Philippines……
I teach advanced step but i doubt if i can get that close i keep watching just to learn something new its amazing tell me the secret
Hi Terry,
I use between 142 and 144 BPM in this advanced class. In my other classes I keep it to 140.
Thank you for your kind words.
Wow! I’m dizzy but love it! What bpm are you using? Don’t think I’d want to use more than 1 riser. Thanks for the fun moves! Terri
Amazing! Looks so good! You people look as if you’re flying. I would vomit my lungs out if i did that!
genial..
